allan hough, founding editor and writer at mission mission, lets plain wrap get to know him better. this is the fifty-third installment of plain wrap’s interview series in which plain wrap interviews all its facebook friends. thank you, allan hough.
1. Tell us about yourself?
1. This year I finally sang “Hurricane” by Bob Dylan at karaoke. It’s 8+ minutes long and contains the N-word and a lot of violin solos, so I’d been hesitant to try it for pretty much the entire time I’ve been into karaoke. But one night I got up the nerve and went for it and nailed it, and it was sooo much fun.
2. Have you read any good books lately?
2. The last time I read a whole book was the summer of 2010. The book was _In Dubious Battle_ by John Steinbeck and I liked it a lot, especially this passage about a logger that on paydays would go straight into town and order a big plate of like 15 or 16 fried eggs and just tear into them.
Mostly I read Tumblr.
3. Why did you leave your last job?
3. Laid off! But I was pretty stoked. Jobs are the worst.
4. What have you done to improve your knowledge in the last year?
4. I became a party promoter. I’ve learned so much at every turn, and I’ve made a few new friends, and making friends is probably the best thing there is for knowledge.
5. Tell us about the most fun you have had in life?
5. Might’ve been a drive from Sacramento to Salt Lake City a couple summers ago. It’s like a 12-hour trip or something, but the conversation with my traveling companion was so engaging, we never even thought to put on music! And music is like my main jam! The scenery was pretty good too, and I got a cool souvenir trucker hat from this mini mart called Two Stiffs Selling Gas in Lovelock.
