johnny vulpine, poet, musician, artist, lets plain wrap get to know him better. this is the forty-ninth installment of plain wrap’s interview series in which plain wrap interviews all its facebook friends. thank you, johnny vulpine.
1. Tell us about yourself?
1. My alias is Johnny Vulpine, but my real name is Johnny Garcia. I live in South Texas and sometimes I live in New Hampshire. I write poetry, I write music and I occasionally make art. I’m hoping to release a chapbook soon with my girlfriend sometime before the year ends. I met my girlfriend on tumblr.
I make music and will be releasing a EP sometime in November/December (hopefully). I have compiled a zip file of a few songs that I have made and you can download that here:

2. Have you read any good books lately?
2. A book I last read was Tao Lin’s Eeeee Eee Eeee that i won from a contest he had on his tumblr. I read it on an airplane. Another book was Cormac McCarthy’s All the Pretty Horses. Well, actually, i didn’t read it all, but i did read like half of it. I just wasn’t that into it, i think. My girlfriend’s dad gave me a copy.
But actually, I haven’t been reading many books at all lately because i’ve been obsessed with Manga. I think it’s a lot more my style (creepy/horror-y/urban legend-y).
This month I have read Uzumaki, Flesh Coloured Horror, The Drifting Classroom, Right Hand of God Left Hand of the Devil and Fuan no Tane.
All of those are horror Mangas and amazing. I suggest everyone go read Uzumak and Flesh Coloured Horror.
3. Why did you leave your last job?
3. I had 2 last jobs. One was working as a ‘Research Representative’ at a place called ‘PTV nustats’. I called people and asked them to take surveys and I was pretty good at it. I think maybe it was because most of the time i would take xanax and just feel good about being somewhere not home. My other job was as a provider for a patient. All I did was clean/wash things/cook things/etc.
I quit both my jobs because I was moving from South Texas to New Hampshire to be with my girlfriend. When I lived with her in Dover, New Hampshire I tried to get a job, but I ultimately couldn’t and had to move back.
4. What have you done to improve your knowledge in the last year?
4. I actually haven’t been to college in awhile. About 1-2 years. I’m going back this January though, and I’m glad I am. I feel like I’m finally ready to just take it down.
Other than that, lately I’ve been slowly transitioning into veganism. I’ve been vegetarian for about 4-5 years now and I feel like i’m almost ready, but I also really love cheese. Maybe i’m not doing it for the right reasons..I’m not sure, but I think i’m still going to try.
5. Tell us about the most fun you have had in life?
5. I don’t know about the most fun I’ve had in my life…I had a really good time being in a band once and playing music. I had a good time at the IRL poetry tour. It was a blast hanging out with Steve Roggenbuck, Poncho Peligroso, Spencer Madsen, Guillaume Morissette, Beach Sloth Greg Santos and more. Someone said that readers drank for free so I ended up drinking a lot. I remember when everyone left I went up to Steve and put my arm on him and started telling him how much he inspired me. I remember him looking kind of nervous or something. It was a great time and afterwards a friend of Crispin Best and Spencer Madsen (Rosalind Delaney Kumagai) let me stay at her apartment. It was such a great time and I will never forget it. I hope something like that happens again in the next 1-2 years. I think it needs to happen.
