gene kwak, writer, flim-flam man, uncle, brother, son, friend, lets plain wrap get to know him better. this is the thirty-sixth installment of plain wrap’s interview series in which plain wrap interviews all its facebook friends. thank you gene kwak.
1. Tell us about yourself?
1. Nebraskan. Omaha, Nebraska, to be particular. I’d say writer, but I prefer flim-flam man. Uncle. Brother. Son. Friend. These are the titles I give a fuck about upholding.
2. Have you read any good books lately?
2. Re-read Mike Young’s LOOK! LOOK! FEATHERS, which I think is one of the best short story collections I’ve erstwhile browsed. Reading Blake Butler’s NOTHING, which is a brain eraser. Re-reading a lot of DeLillo, Barry Hannah, and Mark Anthony Jarman. Early Jarman. Cowboy escapades. Living in the sentences of Amy Hempel and Christine Schutt. Reading poems from my buddy Jonathan Papas’ manuscript that’ll someday scorch the earth.
3. Why did you leave your last job?
3. Had to flee the East Coast.
4. What have you done to improve your knowledge in the last year?
4. Been open to others.
5. Tell us about the most fun you have had in life?
5. Long, sordid tale about a Fourth of July at an extravagant house owned by a very successful, gay cake decorator. Needless to say, many smooth youth, both men and women, attended. Big pool teemed with the barely clothed. Point of the story is the atmosphere was lovely. Joy being had by all. One asshole, who was near pitch over drunk, started muttering homophobic slurs to people. Next thing you know, he keeled over and knocked down a plastic palm tree, cracking his head on concrete steps. It’s not often you see karma unfold in the time you can heat a microwave pizza. Also, open bar.
