1. Tell us about yourself?
1. My name is Sally Louise. I have lived in Ohio my whole darn life, but consider myself to be a bit of a southern belle since most of my family lives in Tennessee and I have spent a lot of time there. Some holidays are spent in Kentucky where we meet at my Aunt Sadie and Uncle Raiford’s house in the middle of the woods. We eat until we can’t stand up, then we drink mystery bottles of liquor and play music in a barn. Most folks in my family are musicians. I am queer. I love my family. Most of my queer friends aren’t able to say that. I feel kinda lucky… I also haven’t really come out to anyone in my family accept for my mom, mainly because I’m a little secretive and I dont really feel like it’s their business.
I tell folks that this the quiet before the storm— I am 23 years old so no one is really questioning why i’m not married or having kids yet. Someday they will. We’ll see what happens.
2. Have you read any good books lately?
2. I have a hard time reading, my attention span is short and I’ve never been much of an academic. I finished reading “Bastard Out of Carolina” in like 5 days. I felt very accomplished, cause I don’t finish books often. Also, its an incredibly good and sad book.
3. Why did you leave your last job?
3. I left my last job because I was living in Philadelphia and wanted to come back to Ohio. I worked at a coffee shop. I was the only person on my shift and it was lonely with a capital L.
4. What have you done to improve your knowledge in the last year?
4. I tried moving somewhere. Although I quickly moved back to Ohio, it was a good experience. I mentioned that I am not an academic and I have a hard time reading… I learn mostly from experiences so I push myself to try new things and have conversations with people.
5. Tell us about the most fun you have had in life?
5. The most fun I’ve had in my life? That’s a really hard question to answer. I will tell you about a really fun time I once had: one of my best friends and I went to a really snooty suburb to go garage sale snooping. At one of the many houses we visited we found a tape of the BeetleGuese soundtrack, which we promptly played as loud as my friends car could blast it, speeding through this ritzy neighborhood to the most menacing music imaginable. Driving wildly through cul-de-sacs with the windows down, screaming and laughing.
In Ohio, we have to make our own fun.
