devin charitonidis, writer and collaborator with the room 22, lets plain wrap get to know him better. this is the twenty-sixth installment of plain wrap’s interview series in which plain wrap interviews all its facebook friends. thank you devin charitonidis.
1. Tell us about yourself?
1. My name is Devin Charitonidis and I write poems every other day. I am currently working with a love cult/art collective: http://www.theroom22.com/ . My painstaking objective for 2011 is to start writing THE debut novel.
2. Have you read any good books lately?
2. Mmmmm yes. I’ve read Truman Capote’s travel logs but that hardly counts. How to make love to a negro without getting tired by Dany Laferrière was recommended to me by a real estate agent some time recently. One of my best bros lent me Fernando Pessoa’s Book of Disquiet but I can’t read that without sulking for a long bit.
3. Why did you leave your last job?
3. August 2010. Personnel changes at the grocery store led to disillusionment. I also set out to try writerly things. Shrink wrapping cars in the parking lot will always stay dear to me. A triumph of my young adulthood.
4. What have you done to improve your knowledge in the last year?
4. I’ve been reading a lot of religious and occult material. I guess theoretically, I haven’t been learning all that much. I also suffered a jarring injury to the brain last month. I flipped over a metal chain in a drunken stupor. I’m ready to listen. Take me under your wing(s) please.
5. Tell us about the most fun you have had in life?
5. When I was seven years old and meeting my Greco-family in Athens for the very first time, my uncle took me out on his mini-yacht. We scoured the Mediterranean, fished for dinner and stood dangerously close to the current. During the trip, I do remember catching fire in an attempt to transfer a torch onto my arm.
